My Story
I was born in Taiwan but moved to Taiwan at a young age. I lived there until the age of five, when my family moved to California. I went to public school in California and was always a good student. In my teen years, I got into the habit of reading books from the public library by day and reading self-help books at night. I took a few college classes and found a love for psychology.
I graduated high school at 17 and left home to live on my own for the first time. At 19, I married a man 11 years my senior.
Iris Shun-Ru Chang (March 28, 1968 – November 9, 2004) was a Chinese American journalist, author of historical books and political activist. She is best known for her best-selling 1997 account of the Nanking Massacre, The Rape of Nanking, and in 2003, The Chinese in America: A Narrative History. Chang is the subject of the 2007 biography, Finding Iris Chang, and the 2007 documentary film Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking starring Olivia Cheng as Iris Chang.
