    ENFJ (9w8)

Juror #9 “McArdle” personality type is INFP, but I do have a preference that I’m going to call “Juror #9’s First Law of Interpersonal Relationships.” It’s “Don’t talk about personal feelings in a professional setting.”

How did this play out in the McArdle case? Juror #9 did not talk about personal feelings in a professional setting. He did not discuss his experience at the nursing home with his wife, or with his daughter, or with his friends. He did not talk about his feelings with the prosecution. He did not discuss his feelings with the defense. He did not discuss his feelings with the judge. In fact, he did not talk about his feelings with anyone at all. This would have been a perfectly legitimate approach to the case, and the jury would have been perfectly fine with it.

I can understand why Juror #9 might have felt uncomfortable discussing his personal feelings in a roomful of strangers. But in this case, he would have been well within his rights to do so.

As described in the original screenplay: "70 years old. Retired. A mild, gentle old man, long since defeated by life, and now merely waiting to die. A man who recognizes himself for what he is, and mourns the days when it would have been possible to be courageous without shielding himself' behind his many years. From the way he takes pills whenever he is excited, it is obvious that he has a heart condition."
