Mugen was introduced in episode 9 of Laid-Back Camp, in which he was assigned to watch over the campers. He is assigned to Natsume, who is camping alone. When Natsume is attacked by a spirit in her tent, Mugen springs into action to save her. He then introduces himself and declares that he is her bodyguard.
He has since become an official member of the cast in episodes 10 and 11, in which he joins in on the training in order to get stronger. He is the one who chose the tree to train under. He also reveals his dislike of naps, something which he has already confirmed in the manga.
