Due to his parents' jobs, he lived alone with only his sister, Hina, until he was 14 years old. After Hina died in a car accident, he felt guilty about the accident and didn't tell anybody. While at high school, he met his future wife, Asuka. They started dating and got married after graduating. He had two children with her.
After his father died, his mother remarried and moved to America. Upon her death he moved back to Japan to live with his sister's son, Tatsuya Nanjo.
