He is also shown to have a cowardice, as he is afraid of his father's anger. In the anime, he also has a tendency to lie. He was portrayed by Masakazu Morita in the anime and Natsuki Hanae in the live-action series.
In the live action series, Subaru is a genius high school student who's often found in trouble with his father over his poor grades and being a slacker. He is also a talented pianist and a trickster, but not as much as in the original manga. His intellect is often holding him back from his ambition to become a doctor. He tries to portray himself as stupid, but is very intelligent. He has a strong sense of justice and hates injustice, but despite being intelligent, he lacks the courage to stand up for himself or others, especially after experiencing his father's wrath.
