Although the Japanese-American actress has been acting since she was four years old, Manaka’s passion for the arts was ignited by watching the movie The Wizard of Oz when she was just five years old.
“I fell in love with acting,” she says. “I remember just absolutely getting obsessed with it and wanting to be on the screen and I was so excited when I realized that I could be.”
Manaka said she has, however, had to deal with a lack of roles over the years. She said: “I think part of me is struggling to understand why there aren’t more roles for Asian actors.
