She has a very high intelligence and is a very good actress, but she can be very cunning and manipulative in order to get what she wants.
She was an extremely sadistic woman, as seen with her plan to kill her son Oedipus. She also killed her son Polybus with a poisonous snake, which would have been easier than killing him by bludgeoning him to death.
