In the US and other parts of the world, we have a lot of "in groups" like organizations and communities of people who share the same interests and hobbies. There are a lot of people who feel like they don't belong or "don't fit in" because they're different from the crowd, and that's normal. In Japan, it's more like everyone is part of a group of people who like to do the same things and go to the same places. If you're not, then you're left out. And that can feel pretty scary."
