Review:
The book is a series of interviews with Keager’s family, who were all taught from an early age to take care of their brother, and describe his journey from a child with cerebral palsy to a man with the ability to stand on his own two feet.
The story begins with a child born with a severe case of cerebral palsy. The medical term for this condition is spastic cerebral palsy. The condition causes a child to have involuntary muscle spasms that cause the child to be unable to walk or sit without support. In addition, the child will have severe speech impediments, and therefore will have a hard time communicating with others. Most children with spastic cerebral palsy are institutionalized from birth, either in a school or in a nursing home.
In Keager’s case, his parents were told that he would never be able to walk, and he would never be able to talk.
