Patrick's first job out of college was in sales. He has spent his entire career in sales. A few years ago, he was working as a sales rep for a software company. He earned $150,000 a year. Then his phone started ringing again.
"The more I grew in my career, the more it seemed like it became a normal part of my life," Patrick says. "I was living my life and working my job."
Patrick's girlfriend at the time was in military intelligence and had been deployed to Afghanistan for six months. She began to tell him about the horrible things the American soldiers were seeing over there. Patrick says he was "one of those people who had his head in the sand" about the war.
He looked at the war as a way to make a paycheck and get a little adventure.
