Both of them were chess prodigies and both of them were in the top 10 in the world at their respective ages. Morphy was a genius at chess at a very young age. He was 12 years old when he beat a famous chess master, Adolf Anderssen, in a simultaneous exhibition. He would later go on to become the first chess grandmaster.
In another match against a chess master named Adolf Paulsen, Morphy defeated him in a match of seven games by a score of 5-0. Morphy was a bit of a showman and he loved to play against his opponents. He played the games in a dramatic fashion and would write about his matches in a way that would make them seem more interesting to the spectators. In his book The Chess Masters, he wrote about the games in a way that would give the public a deeper insight into the games.
