Geffen's disenchantment with organized religion may stem from his youth. He was raised Jewish, but he says he doesn't really have a connection to organized religion.
"I've never felt like I was really a part of Jewish culture," he says. "I don't have a strong connection to Judaism."
Geffen says he's still a religious guy, though. He goes to synagogue every Saturday with his girlfriend and her family.
But he doesn't believe in God — at least not like the God that's described in the Bible. He thinks that what's written in the Bible is a bunch of nonsense.
"I just read it thinking 'This is ridiculous,' " he says.
Aviv Geffen (Hebrew: אביב גפן, born May 10, 1973) is an Israeli rock musician, singer, songwriter, producer, keyboardist, and guitarist and the son of writer and poet Yehonatan Geffen and Nurit Makover, brother of actress Shira Geffen, and an alumnus of Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. In addition to his solo career, Geffen is a founding member of the band Blackfield.
