The only real problem with the movie is that it was made in 2006. It’s been 7 years since then. There were a lot of changes to the story in the interim, and many of the actors and actresses were replaced. A lot of the original actors and actresses did not return for this remake. The new actors and actresses did a good job, but it’s just not the same.
The script is still very good and has some very interesting characters. There’s a lot of very good material here, but it just wasn’t done right. The new casting and everything else is eye-catching enough to keep people interested, but don’t expect too much from this movie. Compared to the original, it’s not even comparable.
Tetsuya Nomura (野村 哲也, Nomura Tetsuya, born October 8, 1970) is a Japanese video game artist, designer and director working for Square Enix (formerly Square). He designed characters for the Final Fantasy series, debuting with Final Fantasy VI and continuing with various later installments. Additionally, Nomura has led the development of the Kingdom Hearts series since its inception in 2002 and was the director of the 2005 film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.
Nomura considers Yoshitaka Amano one of his biggest inspirations when doing artwork. His four "seniors", Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yoshinori Kitase, Hiroyuki Ito and Tetsuya Takahashi were also described as major influences. He even compared Sakaguchi to something "like a godly figure" during his early days at Square. At that time, Nomura was also taught the basics of game design by Ito. He told Nomura never to stick to existing concepts but rather to reuse just specific ideas and explained concepts such as ease of control.
