Æthelred personality type is ESTP, the Exaltation is the Fourth Class. In fact, Æthelred's personality type falls squarely in the middle of the four Exaltations, as do those of the two Anglo-Saxon Kings of England, Alfred and Edgar.
Please note that my sequence of the Exaltations is not necessarily that given by the fourteenth-century author of 'The History of King Alfred', as this sequence is based on a description of the Exaltations as seen from a Jungian perspective.

Æthelred is the Lord of Mercia and married to King Alfred's daughter Æthelflæd. Initially, he appears to be both the perfect match for Æthelflæd and a good ally for Alfred as he strives to extend his influence outside Wessex. But in moments of weakness Æthelred is plagued by insecurity, and is rarely seen without his advisor Aldhelm by whom he is easily influenced in matters both personal and political.
