By the time of the start of the anime, Murata is employed as a veterinarian at a veterinary clinic (and as a pet shop owner on the side), and has a boyfriend named Tsubasa (who also works at the clinic). Her life is generally happy and content.
It turns out that she had a rather interesting past: as a child, she and her family were attacked and injured by a lion (that she nicknamed "Panda"), but her mom was killed during the attack. She ended up being saved by a friend, Shizuru, who also ended up being attacked by Panda. As a result, she became a "Proto-Person" by absorbing Shizuru's memories into her own mind. She then went to live with Tsubasa's family, who took care of her after being rescued by the Protagonist.
After absorbing enough memories from Shizuru, Murata eventually became a full-fledged "Proto-Person", and later discovered that her original personality was Shizuru. She then goes on a quest to find her true identity.
