In my case, MBTI is comparing a type to a certain way of living, and determining if I am a similar type to another person. It can be very helpful in making sense of our similarities and differences, but I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not perfect. After all, we only have four types in the entire system, and there are many types that are hard to place.
I would also caution against using MBTI too much. We have an entire blog devoted to understanding MBTI and the implications of it in your life. But I think it’s important to keep in mind that the scores assigned by MBTI are just that — scores. Think of them as a tool rather than gospel.
I was given the option between “introverted” and “extroverted” as my type, which I chose extroverted. My parents were surprised. “Extroverted? When you were born?” they asked. “You were crying and not breathing,” they said, making their case against the idea of extroversion. But they were wrong.
