I think Andros is an incredibly complex individual. He can be very cold, calculating, and sometimes ruthless. But, underneath it all, he's a very warm and caring person.
I think he really does have a good heart. I think the only reason he's so harsh to others is because he doesn't want them to suffer the same fate that he did.
My theory is that, while Andros is a mastermind, he's not a fully grown one. He's still a child in a grown man's body. He's just a very intelligent child, who's been through a lot of terrible things in his life. So, he has to be cold and cruel to other people because he doesn't want them to experience the despair and pain that he has been through. Andros also has the potential to be a great hero, but he doesn't realize it. If he ever did realize it, he'd probably be a much better person.
I think Andros' backstory is a very dark one. It's hard for him to trust anyone. At the same time, he's also very distrustful.
