Genos' design as a "Cyborg Genos" is based on the Japanese myth of an old man (or "Mononoke Hime"). The character's name, "Genos", is derived from the Japanese word "genius" (ジョンス). The "cyborg" part of his design is derived from the Japanese myth of a warrior (or "Buddha") and the samurai (or "samurai").
The character's hair and eyes are based on the "Buddha" archetype. His physical body is an exact replica of the body of Sakata Gintoki, but with a few minor changes: the eye color has been changed from purple to blue, and his hair has been chopped down to a shorter length. He also wears a gi instead of a yukata, and his "Demon Cyborg" appearance is based on the medieval Japanese warrior/monk/samurai archetype.
Genos is an S-Class hero. His home village was attacked by an unknown cyborg, destroying everything he once knew - in order to get revenge, he has become a cyborg himself with incredible combat capabilities.
