The Doughboys personality type is ENTP, but I've heard of many ENTP's that have a childish demeanor, which I think is different from a childish personality.
As to why, I think it simply comes from immature logic, or lack thereof. They tend to be immature because they aren't hyper-rational thinkers, and the rest of the world doesn't seem to understand them. I'm sure part of the reason for that is their childhood was difficult, and they didn't get proper instruction. They just don't think like everyone else does.
I haven't seen many people that fit the personality type, but I have seen a couple. The first has a childish personality, but not childlike. He had a quick temper and would make childish remarks to people who annoyed him. He also talked very fast, which he attributed to his childhood.
The second guy was a very serious, intelligent person, but he had a childish personality. He used humor to cope with life.
I'd like to find more people who have this personality type, but I don't think it exists in the population at large.
