The American Prospect: What is an "international" American?
Hannah Bayles: International Americans are the offspring of immigrants and their descendants. They feel a strong connection with their foreign homeland and often have a special interest in foreign affairs, but they don't feel as strongly connected to their human family here at home.
AT: What's it like to be an international American?
HB: International Americans are really good at putting themselves in the shoes of the people they're concerned about. If you're concerned about someone from a foreign land, you want to understand how he or she thinks, and that means doing research and reading up on what's going on there. International Americans care a lot about what others think of them. They also tend to be very opinionated, and they want to make a difference, even if it's only a small difference.
