"I was always creative, but after I got sick I didn't have the energy to put into it," Ellis said. "So all of my paintings ended up being very spontaneous."
Ellis said that the inspiration for her paintings came from her experiences with cancer.
"I was able to go through a time of feeling like my body was failing me, and that my life was over. It's hard to see yourself as someone who is going to die, and then you actually do die," she said. "For most of the painting process, I was just sad and depressed."
