There’s a lot to love about this film. First off, it’s a full length horror film that doesn’t end with the main character dying. It’s not a “parody” of the genre, which is to say it doesn’t have a heavy dose of self-awareness. The film has elements of many different sub-genres, but it feels like none of them are being tossed aside or made fun of. That’s just the way these things are done.
The film is made up of three distinct acts, each with a different protagonist. Act one is between the two main characters, the man and the woman. Act two is between the two men, one of whom is the main character. Act three is between the two women, one of whom is the main character. The film wears its influences proudly, but doesn’t treat them as elaborate jokes.
The film opens with an older woman (Marjorie Reynolds) making a phone call to her daughter.
Jon Schnepp (born May 16, 1967) is an American director, animator, producer and voice actor best known for his work on Adult Swim cartoons, including Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros. and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. He has also served as a regular contributor to the film news website Collider.
