In this post, I will share the results of a project I did for my senior thesis. In it, I will be describing the four cognitive functions.
The four cognitive functions are:
Sensing: perception. Thinking: interpretation. Feeling: evaluation. Perceiving: perception.
Sensing is the first cognitive function to start to emerge in a child. At the age of 4, a child begins to acquire a sense of self and a sense of time. These senses are developed over the course of childhood and adolescence. Sensing is the first cognitive function to emerge in children, and it manifests in them in two ways:
1. Touch, for example, one may describe how something feels by using sensory terms such as “firm” or “soft” 2. As the child gets used to the world around them, they begin to recognize patterns (such as that objects that are blue will fit into one category, and objects that are red will fit into another category).
Thinking is the second cognitive function to emerge in children.
