I am an INFP, and I know really well that that is not what is written in those books. The INFP is the type who instinctively recognizes and tries not to ignore many things but doesn't always succeed. The INFP is the type who feels everything deeply, sometimes to the point of despair.
So in the book, this type might be described as a character that knows humanity quite well. He knows what people are like. He knows how they behave, he knows their weaknesses and he can easily predict their reactions and moods. But instead of understanding them, he doesn't like them. He doesn't like their character and he feels bad for them, in a way. He is not sad for them, but he feels bad for them nonetheless.
