ROBERT BURGMAN: My process is very simple. Once I am done with an outline of the novel, I let the story take me where it will. I am not really sure where it will go, but I let it go where it takes me. It is like playing the piano. You get the notes on the page, but you don’t see what will come next, because you are playing. It is like that with writing. I get the words on the page; I get the ideas in my head; then I let them go where they will, and hope that it is something that people will like or that I will like.
