Abderrahim Hamouda (alias “Abderraouf Tounsi”, born 27 December 1936) is a Tunisian comedian, actor and personality born in Casablanca, Morocco. In the 1950s, he set up a theatre company and performed in cafés in Casablanca, adapting plays by Molière. He invented his character, Abderraouf, the embodiment of idiocy and naïvety, and quickly became the precursor of individual humour in Morocco. His shows were a huge success, and for decades he was selling out shows and was being widely broadcasted on Moroccan television. Tounsi disappeared from the scene in the 1990s and returned in 2005 to play a role in the TV movie “Ba Larbi's Bicycle”, and subsequently appeared in a theatrical piece, “Jarti Mou Laghdfa”, for the Moroccan channel 2M. In 2011, he was titled the ‘Best Moroccan Comedian of the 20th Century’ by the Foundation of Arabic Humour Nights in Antwerp, Belgium, and in 2013 was decorated with the prestiged ‘Order of Ouissam Alaouite’ award by King Mohammed VI.
