I knew I had to think of something that would be really fun and exciting for him to do, because he really wants to be the one to do it. For me, I like to do things that are challenging, that are fun, that are exciting, that are different. And that is the kind of show that I like to do. So I knew that he would be an action guy.
So I came up with the idea for this whole thing where his best friend would be killed at the end of the pilot. And I thought it would be really fun to have him go on this revenge quest against the Latin Kings with this little girl at the end of the pilot, who had no idea who he was or how he’s related to her.
So I was thinking about how I could have him be the one to take this on, and then have him have some kind of emotional involvement with this little girl.
