As a child, Inoue was apparently shy, but very interested in the human mind and people’s psyche. Inoue’s interest in psychology as a teenager led him to pursue a degree in psychology, which he obtained in the early 70s. It was at this time that he became interested in the New Age movement and began to meet with people like Usui Reiki master Masaru Emoto, who was promoting his belief that humans are not composed of water but of “spiritual energy”.
Inoue would later become a member of the Usui Reiki Society and continue to promote Emoto’s ideas. In 1987, Inoue began to speak at seminars on “energy medicine”, which dealt with “spiritual healing”. In 1989, he founded an organisation which promoted the idea of spiritual healing, called the Nippon Seishin Kai (Japan Spiritual Healing Association).
