L: You’re both so young, and your careers seem so different. What’s the common thread between you both?
JP: We both, most definitely, come from very diverse backgrounds. I am a former Marine and my husband is a former teacher and school administrator. We both have very diverse experiences in the military and in the classroom and we use those skills to help people grow and learn. We both know that we can never be perfect and we always need to learn.
I was raised in a small town in New York where my parents were teachers and I grew up in the church. I was taught to believe that I was special and that I had a purpose. I always thought of myself as strong and honest and I believed in the importance of others as well as my own family.
I knew early on that I didn’t want to be a teacher. I wanted to be a Marine, but I had to get out of high school before I could go to boot camp.
