Born March 2, 1950, Mark John Kelly was raised in Chicago, IL. He attended Malcolm X College (now Malcolm X College) and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Kelly has one brother, Michael, who is nine years older than him, and two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha is eight years older than Mark.
Kelly's first wife was the former Barbara Nell Hudgins (1970–1978). The couple met shortly after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. They had one son together, Christopher.
Mark Edward Kelly is an American politician, engineer, former astronaut, and U.S. Navy captain. He also is an author, political activist, as well as aerospace executive and consultant. Kelly is the husband of former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords. A naval aviator, he flew combat missions during the Gulf War.
