    William Thomson , 1st Baron Kelvin personality type is ISTJ, a person of action. Though in the beginning he was a scientist in Glasgow, he eventually found himself in London where he could do more good for the world. After his meteoric rise to power and position, Kelvin thought it best to resign and return to his home city. Kelvin's first idea was to help with the production of electric power and transformers as an engineer. Kelvin's first invention was the first ever thermocouple, a device that allowed Kelvin to make better measurements of temperature. He then invented the ammeter, a device that measured electric current.

    Kelvin worked with James Clerk Maxwell to form the electric and magnetic fields of electromagnetism. Kelvin was a staunch believer in the scientific method, and the law of energy conservation, so he dedicated his life to discovering the relationship between heat and work. Kelvin worked tirelessly to prove that heat is nothing more than a form of work, which would later lead to the second law of thermodynamics.

    Kelvin's contributions to science were many. He was a very intelligent man who believed in his findings to the point of stubbornness. This led him to be quite difficult to work with at times.

    Sir William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, (26 June 1824 – 17 December 1907) was an Irish-Scottish (of Ulster Scots heritage) mathematical physicist and engineer who was born in Belfast in 1824. At the University of Glasgow he did important work in the mathematical analysis of electricity and formulation of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, and did much to unify the emerging discipline of physics in its modern form. He worked closely with mathematics professor Hugh Blackburn in his work.
