D.H. Lawrence personality type is INFP, the "introverted intuitive feeling perceiving" personality type. He was born in 1885 to a German mother and an English father, both of whom were acclaimed poets. The decision to name his first son Siegfried was not without symbolism for the family. His father, Siegfried Sassoon, was a German poet who later became a British army officer during World War I. The name "Siegfried" means "victorious" in German, but the family was reluctant to name the boy Siegfried because they believed it would be too difficult to live up to the name.
The young Lawrence grew up in a household where poetry was discussed and literature read. When he was about six years old, his brother George wrote a poem for him. It was a poem that Lawrence had long admired and that would later be published as a book of poems by him after his brother's death at the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. Lawrence's first love was literature, being encouraged by his parents from an early age. He was also a talented athlete, playing the piano and violin during childhood, and showed a talent for art, especially drawing and painting.
