Carol Orzel is an American writer, author, and artist. She is the daughter of William M. Orzel, the first director of the National Air and Space Museum. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Carol Orzel, who was a Polish Jew who fled Poland before World War II. She wrote about her grandmother's experiences at the Nazi death camps in her book, The Dark Side of the Moon. The book was published under the title One Small Step for Man: The Big Bang Theory and the True Story Behind Its Popularity, which was published in June 2008. Orzel was inspired to write it because her grandmother had told her about the death camps at the beginning of the book, but she had never heard her grandmother's stories about life before the war.
