Jean Dausset (born October 19, 1916 in Toulouse and died June 6, 2009 in Palma de Mallorca [1], [2] in Spain) was a French immunologist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1980. He discovered in 1958 the major histocompatibility complex, which today makes it possible to know the compatibility between donor and recipient for an organ transplant.
