    Louis Agassiz

    Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz, born in Môtier (canton of Fribourg) on 28 May 1807 and died in Cambridge (Massachusetts) on 14 December 1873, was a Swiss-American botanist, zoologist, ichthyologist and geologist. He was one of the first American scientists of world renown. He is known as one of the few zoologists who argued against the theory of evolution and for describing several species of fossil fish such as Megalodon.
