davidb The biggest thing I've noticed with people who are completely original is that they are also completely creative. I find that I am very creative, but I know I am not truly original, since there are already many people who had similar ideas before me. If you're totally original, you will know this and be a bit more humble about it, so you can pay tribute to the other people you have influenced.

My suggestion would be that you don't try to relate to them. You can say "I am the way I am because of the way my parents were...", but that's not a good fit for them. The problem is that they are not somehow different enough to make this work.
This is exactly how I relate to people.
