No! You can't just... personality type is ISTJ, and I always thought it was ESTJ!
But no ones ever said that personality types were personality types, just that personality types were what personality type people typically thought other personality types were.
I've always seen it as a personality type, not a personality. And the ISTJ thing is just a stereotype.
If you're an ISTJ, and someone says: "ISTP: You know, ISTJs are introverted and can be a bit socially awkward," you'd probably nod and agree. But if someone came up to you and said, "You know, ESTJs are extroverted and can be a bit socially awkward," you'd probably laugh and say no way - that's not true.
It's true that ISTJs are introverted and socially awkward (many of them are). But that's not what they're typically thought to be. If someone said that to me, I'd probably respond by saying, "Well, I know there are introverted and extroverted ISTJs, but I'm an extrovert."
