In my own experience, I've been both a protector and a provider. I've been a protector of a person, a family member, a close friend, a pet... you name it. I've also been a provider of a home, a car, a job... you name it.
While I was raised in a religious household, I'm not religious. In fact, I'm not even spiritual. My spirituality is that of a protector and a provider. I don't see myself as being spiritual in the sense of being mystical or being in touch with nature. I just see myself as being an agent of protection and a provider. I don't see myself as being a higher being or a deity in any way. I just see myself as a protector and a provider.
I protect my loved ones from harm and I provide for them so they can have the things they need in life. It's no different than an ISTJ personality in this respect.
