Metwali Al-Sha'raawi (Arabic: محمد الشعراوي) (born 1947 in Iraq) is an Iraqi political scientist, diplomat and former Vice-President of the United Nations General Assembly. He is also a leading human rights activist, championing the cause of the Iraqi people against the former regime of Saddam Hussein. He is also known for his prolific writings on world affairs. His books, which include The Iraq Crisis (2002), Iraq: A Country Study (2002), Iraq: The Crisis of Democracy (2006; English translation 2008), and Iraq: A Critical Study of Political Islam (2004), have been published in several languages.
