    He was born in Baden-Württemberg, Germany on December 8, 1943.

    Baader's childhood was spent in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. His father, who was a doctor, was drafted into the German army during World War II. He died when Andreas was five years old, and his mother died four years later, leaving him an orphan at the age of nine. The boy's guardians were his older sister and his grandmother. He was sent to boarding school in 1943, where he remained for four years. However, during the last year of his schooling, his grandmother died, too, and he returned to live with his sister.

    Baader's sister died in 1949. He then lived in an orphanage in Nuremberg until he was 12 years old. At that time, he was sent to an orphanage in Fürth, where he remained until 1952. The orphanage was closed in 1952 due to the need for re-hiring teachers who were released by the government following World War II.
