Otto Skorzeny is one of the most notorious figures from World War II. When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, Skorzeny led a small team of commandos that captured a Polish general and his staff. They were held as hostages, and Skorzeny took control of their unit. The German commandeered the unit and renamed it “The SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger.” This unit was later incorporated into the Waffen-SS as the “SS-Kampfgruppe Dirlewanger.”
In 1940, Skorzeny was given command of a Special Task Force under the Waffen-SS, known as Otto Skorzeny’s Special Commandos. He was famous for his daring raids on Allied forces across Europe. He planned to kidnap Winston Churchill or General Alexander , but both escaped. He also planned to kidnap the Duke of Windsor during his visit to Mandatory Palestine, but the plan was foiled by British intelligence.
