At the age of 24, Rabin had already joined the Haganah (the pre-state Jewish underground). Later he became the leader of the Palmach (the pre-state Jewish fighters or military force). After the creation of the state of Israel, Rabin was appointed the commander of the IDF.
He was also one of the founding members of the Jewish Agency, which was responsible for aliyah (immigration). He worked as an administrator in the Jewish National Fund, which was responsible for settlement activities. During this period he also founded the World Zionist Organization.
Rabin founded Israel’s first government. He led the peace process with Yasser Arafat; he signed the Oslo Accords (the Oslo Peace Accords). He was assassinated by an Israeli right-wing extremist in 1995.
Yitzhak Rabin was an Israeli politician, statesman and general. He was the fifth Prime Minister of Israel, serving two terms in office, 1974–77 and 1992 until his assassination in 1995. As Prime Minister, Rabin signed several historic agreements with the Palestinian leadership as part of the Oslo Accords, for which he won the Nobel Peace Prize. In November 1995, he was assassinated by an extremist named Yigal Amir, who opposed the terms of the Oslo Accords. Rabin has become a symbol of the Israeli–Palestinian peace process.
