    As a child, Meston was fascinated with the Joker, and after his parents divorced, he moved in with his mother and stepfather. The Joker, who he met in a comic book shop, never ceased to fascinate him.

    The first time Meston met the Joker, he was sitting on a park bench in front of his apartment building with a friend. He introduced himself as “Chuck,” and the Joker said, “I’m Joker.” Meston never forgot that exchange. Later, after he had written for The Batman, he asked to meet the Joker for coffee. When he showed up at the coffee shop, the Joker was already there.

    While Meston was working on The Batman, he became friends with Chuck Dixon, another writer for the show. They both had the same vision for The Batman, but Dixon still felt that he had to work with others.
