Not all Turkish men are such gentlemen, of course.
“My parents were really strict,” she says. “They were very old-fashioned and didn’t want me to get married too early or too soon.”
The pressure to marry young has eased in recent years, although women in Turkey are still expected to marry in their 20s. They can only get married if they fulfil four demands: they must be at least 18, they must be living with their husband for at least two years, they must live together, and they must be of the same religion.
