In the series
In the show, Kaname makes his first appearance in episode 3 as the main antagonist of the first arc. After watching a video of Haruka as a child, he kidnaps her and holds her captive at his house. After a little while, however, she escapes and heads back to school. While there, she meets up with Haruka's friend, Yuki, who is also a transfer student. The two form a partnership to find Haruka and return her home. They soon find Kaname and Haruka at the amusement park where Kaname was holding her captive. After some brief scuffling, Kaname reveals that he was actually holding Haruka of her own free will, and she convinces him to let her go. Kaname agrees and lets her go.
