He was wanted by the United States for his alleged role in the 1998 American embassy bombings in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. He has been described as al-Qaeda’s most experienced operational planner and was described as second-in-command in the organization. In November 2020, news reports emerged that Abdullah, the second-ranking Al-Qaeda leader, was killed three months prior in Iran by Israeli agents at the request of the United States.
