Maria Augusta Thomaz (Codenames: Sofia; Renata; Márcia; Leme, November 14, 1947 - Rio Verde, May 1973) she belonged to the Popular Liberation Movement (Molipo) and disappeared on May 17, 1973, Rio Verde, Goias. She is said to be one of the missing persons during the Military Dictatorship in Brazil because they never found her body. She and her brothers attended private secondary school. Since she was little she used to question several political aspects; also had a challenging personality. In 1964, a year that marked the beginning of the military intervention, Maria was 16 years old and was a student. At that time, she still did not show so much interest in political issues, so much so that she became engaged to a man against her father's will. He forced the couple to separate, but the daughter insisted and ran away from home to live with her new husband, an older man, deaf and dumb, as a form of affront. The family was Catholic, which promoted disagreement between her parents.
