All these different religions have this concept of martyrdom. So I became convinced that you could actually make a case for the idea that this was a very long-term plan. And it wasn’t something that he came up with at the last minute. This was something that he had contemplated over a very long period of time.

The Taliban recognized him as the Commander of the Faithful or the Supreme Leader of the Muslims until being succeeded by Mullah Akhtar Mansour in 2015.
