Morris Jackson "Mo" Brooks Jr. (born April 29, 1954) is an American attorney and politician who has served as the United States Representative for Alabama's 5th congressional district since 2011. The district is based in Huntsville and stretches across the northern third of the state. In 2017, he finished third in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions upon Sessions's confirmation as U.S. Attorney General.
After Joe Biden won the 2020 United States presidential election and Donald Trump refused to concede, Brooks staunchly defended Trump and made false claims of fraud. He was the first member of Congress to announce his objection to the certification of the Electoral College results. On January 6, 2021, Brooks spoke at a pro-Trump rally, where he spread misinformation about the election. Before the rally, organizer Ali Alexander said that Brooks contributed to organizing a mob to pressure members of Congress to reject electoral results.
