Sachin Teng: We wanted to create a show that would be a new experience on Netflix. We were looking for a creative and powerful story, and we got the idea of Indian mythology from a friend of ours who is from Kerala, India. It was a creative direction to take the series from a small town in India to a globalized world where everyone can relate to struggles and emotions of Sanjhra Banks.

Sachin Teng: We wanted to create a series with hand-made art and we thought about paper cutting. The art of paper cutting is ancient and we wanted this ancient craft to be an expression of Mumbai and its people and their struggle and hopes and also the creative freedom that they have.

Sachin Teng: Mumbai was chosen because it’s a great city where people want to live, and the city has a lot of creative people with different creative ideas.
